A long time ago, I think precisely in the earliest part of my work with God, I used to think about how holy God is and how he wouldn’t want anything unclean next to Him. So each time I find any trace of uncleanliness around my life, I tend to effortlessly distant myself from His presence. As factual as that was, it took me a long time to be able to understand the errors in that thought. With growth in working with Word of God, I realize that it’s the Truth that makes us free and not the Fact.

Now the Fact that God is Holy, doesn’t mean He can’t accommodate us with our imperfections. He Himself once said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 {ESV}). That is the Truth. Looking at this scripture vividly, I found out that all the Lord is after is to give us rest and not our Laden. Notice how He didn’t say, “Drop all your heavy laden, if you intend to come to me”?

You may have had the roughest of life and consider yourself unholy, but I tell you, God is not after your past, but The Rest He wants to give to you. Our Justification is not by the works we do or our effort towards keeping a clean sheet in God’s Hypothetical Black book. Rather, we are justified by God’s Effort towards redeeming us despite our flaws.

His desire is to see us all Changed notwithstanding what made us dirty. “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18). So stop dwelling in the past and see the places the Lord is willing to take you to, only if you will Just Come. Come with all your imperfections and allow Him clean you up Himself. His hands are wide enough to cater for you and your baggage. The only price you will have to pay is Just Come. Your coming is all that matters. You don’t have to be perfect. …”Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.” (Revelation 22:17).

So, quit waiting for the day you no longer feel the urge to delve into that addiction or sin before you come to the Lord. Come today, Come as you are and He will give you Rest.
