JTF raids Boko Haram enclave, recover large cache of arms

The Joint Task Force (JTF) commander, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, told reporters yesterday that the military has recovered a large cache of arms from the residence of a top Boko Haram commander in the Bulunkutu-Lawanti area of Maiduguri, Borno State.

Although he did not disclose the identity of the Boko Haram commander whose residence was raided, he described the individual as “a wanted key commander of Boko Haram sect.”

“Following the operation which was carried out at the early hours of yesterday, large cache of weapons which include 3 AK-47 rifles, 306 x 7.62 mm special ammunition, 39 primed improvised explosives devices cans, and six empty magazines were recovered,” the statement said.

“Other items recovered, include one HP laptop computer containing instruction on preparation of IEDs and chemical weapons, a notebook register containing names of Boko Haram members indicating those already dead, and 54 assorted SIM cards.

“Forty Improvised Explosive Device (IED) remote controls, 20 assorted electrical switches, 50 Qlink motor cycle battery chargers, 20 assorted torchlight batteries and one RPG bomb fuse,” he concluded.

The statement did not however disclose if the said Boko Haram commander was arrested or if anyone else was arrested during the recovery.

The Islamic sect is yet to respond to these claims made by the JTF.
